1 MG Lido Mall
Fluted columns with Corinthian capitals and scrolled relief ornaments set between the windows of a glass-fronted mall.
The glazed front of this mall is divided into bays by white fluted columns that rise through several floors, each finished with a carved Corinthian capital. Between the windows, scrolled relief ornaments with a shell at the centre stand out against the stone-finish cladding.
Every ornament is the same, floor after floor and bay after bay, and every column matches its neighbours. That repetition is what moulded work makes practical: one set of moulds, cast as many times as the facade needs.
At street level the columns stand on moulded bases beside the shopfronts, and a cornice band runs above them, so the classical order carries down to where people walk past.
