Courtyard by Marriott
An arched portico on columns, a balustraded parapet and tall star-lattice jali screens across a hotel's entrance front.
The entrance front of this hotel combines two traditions. Along the drive, a portico of round arches stands on tall columns, finished above with a moulded cornice and a balustraded parapet, so the whole front reads as one classical arcade.
Beside the planted wall that carries the hotel’s name, a run of tall jali screens in an eight-point star lattice brings an Indian pattern into the same elevation. The screens filter light into the spaces behind and give depth to a long, otherwise plain wall.
Arches, columns and cornices like these are made in sections from moulds shaped to the architect’s profiles, then fixed to the structure, which is how the portico keeps the same proportions from end to end.
